community benefits
title

Campus Bay is located within a redevelopment district and has the potential to generate millions of dollars for use by the City Redevelopment Agency to fund community improvement projects. This can only happen if the site is cleaned up, and planned responsibly in a manner that responds to market conditions. A clean and safe, redeveloped Campus Bay property will bring huge benefits to the Richmond community.

  • Increased City Services: Certain types of development will generate millions of dollars in development fees that the City can use for public safety, parks and open space, and other vital city services in Richmond
  • New Jobs: Hundreds of new construction jobs during build out, and the potential for hundreds of permanent jobs after the project's completion, depending on which type of redevelopment is proposed and approved
  • Improved Public Safety: New tax revenue to increase the budgets of Richmond’s Police, Fire and Parks departments – improving public safety and making neighborhoods safer
  • Funding For Local Schools: Funds to build new classrooms and educational facilities in the West Contra Costa Unified School District, as well as new property tax revenues to pay for teachers and textbooks
  • Affordable Housing For Local Families: Affordable housing for local families, if a residential component is included in any proposed redevelopment
  • Environmental Protection: Approximately 22 acres of permanently protected wetlands and habitat area that has been cleaned up, with public access to trails, open space and bay vistas
  • Traffic Improvements: Roadway improvements funded by redevelopment revenues
